Some Texas History
The state of Texas is known for its complex history. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, Texas was inhabited by various indigenous cultures. The natives were displaced by to Spaniards in 1687, who would go on to make expeditions deep into the lands no one else had gone before.
When independence from Mexico entirely shook up ship in 1836, three other Anglo-American joint claims were already operating-- twice as many as any other place on the continent at that time. Texans debated whether they ought to be part of America or not, but after diplomatic battles and battles with Mexican troops which lasted just over a month, they eventually became an independent republic with Henry P. King its first president (or maybe Stephen F. Austin). After the annexation and the Mexican war, it would become a United States state in 1845.
Over time, Texas has had different groups of people call this land their home. Currently, the largest group is the descendants of these original Anglo-American settlers-- just under half of all Texans identify as such. The second largest group is Hispanic or Latino, the collective descendants of the Mexicans who were either brought over to work or fled from their country after America took it in the Mexican-American war.
