Motorcycle insurance is required in Missouri. But beyond meeting the legal minimum, the right coverage protects you, your bike, your gear, and your financial future.
We help riders find the balance between adequate protection and affordable premiums.
What Motorcycle Insurance Covers
• Liability coverage - Injuries and property damage you cause to others. Required by Missouri law.
• Collision coverage - Damage to your motorcycle in an accident, regardless of fault.
• Comprehensive coverage - Theft, vandalism, fire, weather damage, and other non-collision losses.
• Medical payments - Your medical costs after an accident, regardless of fault.
• Uninsured/underinsured motorist - Protection when at-fault drivers lack adequate insurance.
• Accessory coverage - Aftermarket parts, custom chrome, saddlebags, and other add-ons.
• Roadside assistance - Towing and help when you break down.
• Trip interruption - Lodging and transportation costs if your bike breaks down far from home.
Missouri Motorcycle Insurance Requirements
Missouri requires minimum liability coverage for all registered motorcycles:
• $25,000 bodily injury per person
• $50,000 bodily injury per accident
• $25,000 property damage
These minimums might not be enough. If you cause a serious accident with medical bills exceeding $25,000, you're personally responsible for the difference. We typically recommend higher limits, especially for riders with assets to protect.
What Affects Your Motorcycle Insurance Rate?
• Bike type and value - Sport bikes cost more to insure than cruisers. More expensive bikes cost more than older models.
• Engine size - Larger displacement typically means higher rates.
• Your age and riding experience - Younger riders and new riders pay more.
• Driving record - Accidents and violations increase motorcycle insurance rates too.
• Annual mileage - Fewer miles can mean lower premiums.
• Storage location - Garage storage reduces theft risk and can lower rates.
• Safety course completion - Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses often qualify for discounts.
